تحتلّ المعادلات التفاضلية مكانة مرموقة في كل فروع العلوم الهندسية والفيزيائية، حيث أن أغلب العلاقات والقوانين الحاكمة بين متغيرات مسألة فيزيائية أو هندسية تظهر على صور معادلات تفاضلية. ولفهم هذه المسألة فلا بد من حلّ هذه المعادلات أو على الأقل معرفة خصائص هذا الحل، وعملية الحصول على حلّ معادلة تفاضلية ليست بالمسألة اليسيرة دوماً إذ أن كثير من المعادلات التفاضلية غير قابل للحلّ.

دراسة المعادلات التفاضلية العادية من الرتبة الأولى وتطبيقاتها، دراسة المعادلات التفاضلية من الرتبة الأعلى وعرض لأهم المفاهيم والنظريات المتعلقة بالمعادلات التفاضلية الخطية والطرق المختلفة المستخدمة لحلها بما في ذلك الحلول المتسلسلة وقد اختتم هذا الباب الطويل بالعديد من الأمثلة والتطبيقات المتنوعة.
