لم يكن طاغور صاحب هذا الديوان المترجم من اللغة الإنكليزية إلى العربية شاعراً ذا خيال مجنح وحسب، ولا فيلسوفاً ذا منطق علمي نادر المثال، وإنما كان إلى ذلك موسيقياً بارعاً ذا إحساس مرهف عجيب، وعازفاً رائعاً ذا وتر شجي حلو النغمات، رساماً ملهماً ذا ريشة سحرية صارخة، لقد كان طاغور كل هذا، وقبل هذا كان إنساناً تجسدت فيه مشاعر الإنسانية وفضائلها، ولذلك كله استحق وبجدارة جائزة نوبل للاداب لسنة 1913، هذه الجائزة التي تعطى قبله لأي مفكر شرقي أو آسيوي. وبالرغم من أهمية طاغور إلا أن أشعاره لم تلق عناية من الأدباء والمترجمين العرب، وهذا ما دفع الدكتور "عبد الواحد لؤلؤة إلى ترجمة المختارات الشعرية والغنائية التي يضمها هذا الكتاب والتي ترجمتها عن اللغة البنكالية سيدة تدعى "براتيما باويز" مضيفة إليها مقدمة شرحت فيها كثيراً من الأمور التي لا بد منها لفهم هذا الشعر وتذوقه.
