لما كانت مفاتيحَ العلوم مصطلحاتُها؛ وكان التواصل العلمي ضرورة إنسانية، نبعت من مدنية الإنسان، كان لا بد للعربية أن تقف اليوم - كما كانت - شامخة تصدر العلم كما تستور.
واللسانيات - بمنهجياتها "العلمية" ومستخلصاتها النظرية الكلية السائدة هذه الأيام - وليدة حضارة الغرب، ولكنّها استمدت من منبع العلم العالمي ما قاد خطاها، وإذ أفاق العرب فوجدوا الواقع مريراً اندفعوا يلهثون وراء العلم ومصطلحاته.
ولم تكن الخطة محكمة، ولا المنهج واضحاً، وكانت المعرفة بالحقل متفاوتة، والتواصل على الإختيار، لا الإجبار، والمؤسسات محكومة بحيثيات السياق الإجتماعي والسياسي المتردي، فأخذت اللغة العلمية العربية تزخر بسيل من الكلمات التي أريد لها أن تكون إصطلاحية، وأنى لها أن تكون إصطلاحية؟ ولم تلمس معنى الإصطلاح ومتطلباته: أي: الإجتماع والإتفاق والتمحيص والتخطيط.
فأخذ علماء اللسانيات العربية يمحصون تلك الكلمات، وينقدونها، ويعدّلون عليها، وإذا اتصلت بهم الحال بعلوم من الغرب مؤسسة ومحكمة الإصطلاح، بل ومنظمة في بنوك إصطلاحية، فأخذ بهم الجد مأخذه، فمنهم من أخذ يقعّد، ويحاضر، ويرسم خططاً، وآخرون منهم ألقوا بثقلهم مطبقين لما عرفوا وعرّفوا، فوضعوا مصطلحات، وجمعوا، "ومنهجوا"، واشتقوا، وعربوا، وترجموا،... إلخ.
