يضم هذا الكتاب دراسة للعوامل الإجتماعية السكانية التي مكَنت اللغة العربية في مصر والشام والعراق من الإنتشار والحلول محل اللغات المستخدمة في تلك المنطاطق للحديث وتلك التي كانت لغات كتابية بل والتي مكنت العرب رغم قلتهم العددية حينها من الإحتفاظ بلغتهم تلك، يقدم الكتاب فكرة جديدة للبحث اللغوي التاريخي وهي فكرة الإيكولوجيا اللغوية التي تعنى تأثير العامل غير اللغوي في السلوك اللغوي للمجتمع ويفترض أن العوامل الإيكولوجية سهلت ثلاثة أمور للعربية وهي الحفاظ على نفسها من الذوبان في اللغات المحلية والتطور التركيبي بشكل يساعد غير العرب في التعلم بدون وجود تعليم منظم والتطور بشكل تركيبي يختلف عن فصحى القرآن الكريم, ويبين الكتاب في نهايته آثار تلك الإيكولوجية على اللهجات العربية الحديثة من تبسيط تركيبي ووضوح في الصيغ ويقدم لذلك تفسيرات غير معهودة في الكتابة هن اللغة العربية، هي دراسة رائدة تفتح بابا واسعا لفهم جذور لغتنا وبالتالي ثقافتنا وهويتنا.
