إن دراسة القبائل بشكل عام ذات جدوى تاريخية هامة، فالقبائل في الجزيرة العربية لعبت دوراً حساساً في تحديد الإطار العام لتاريخ الجزيرة العربية وكانت جسراً تمر به حضارات القارات الثلاث القديمة، بعكس الصورة التي رسمتها مخيلة المؤرخين والإخباريين الذين دعوا هذه القبائل بالبائدة إذ لا يبيد من يترك أثراً.
وهذه الدراسة هي محاولة متواضعة لإبراز أحد الجوانب الحضارية في الجزء الأوسط والشمالي من الجزيرة العربية، والجزء الجنوبي الشرقي من بلاد الشام ممثلة في القبائل الثمودية والصفوية من خلال النقوش والكتابات التي خلفوها.
وقد قسم البحث على بابين رئيسين، وفي كل باب خمسة فصول، أما الباب الأول فيشتمل على خمسة فصول، خصص الفصل الأول لتقديم لمحة تاريخية عن ما اصطلح عليه بالثموديين والمصادر التي ذكرتهم من القديم إلى الأحداث، أما الفصل الثاني، فيتناول النقوش الثمودية، أما الفصل الثالث، فموضوعه القبائل في النقوش الثمودية، ويتناول الفصل الرابع بحث ما سمي بالمجتمع الثمودي أو مجتمع كتاب النقوش الثمودية.
أما الفصل الخامس والأخير في الباب الأول تحدث عن الصورة الحقيقة للديانة العربية قبل الإسلام عامة وعند الثموديين خاصة، وقد قسم الباب الثاني من الرسالة إلى خمسة فصول أيضاً تسهيلاً لتوزيع المعلومات على عناصر البحث، بحثت موضوع القبائل في النقوش الصفوية.
وفي الفصل الأول قدم المؤلف لمحات تاريخية عما اصطلح عليه بالصفويين نسبة إلى إقليم الصفا في سوريا، وفي الفصل الثانين عرَّف بالنقوش الصفوية: إكتشافها وحل رموزها وأبجديتها؛ أما الفصل الثالث، وهو أنساب القبائل في النقوش الصفوية، وفي الفصل الرابع اعتنى المؤلف بدراسة ما اصطلح عليه بالمجتمع الصفوي، أما الفصل الخامس، فقد خصص للديانة عند الصوفيين.
