يبحث هذا الكتاب في تاريخ قريش قبل الإسلام ويسلط الضوء على جوانب عديدة منها سياسية وإجتماعية ومنها دينية مذهبية، ومنها قبلية، وتقديمها كحالة صحيحة ووضعها في مكانها الصحيح من حركة التاريخ.
وانطلاقاً من هذه الرؤيا أوضح مؤلف الكتاب في البدء أهمية موقع مكة وارتباطه ببناء البيت على يد إبراهيم الخليل (عليه السلام)، ثم درس نشوء مدينة مكة المقترن بالكعبة وكيف بدأت كمركز ديني ومحطة تجارية، أدت إلى إستقرار الناس فيها، كما تناول الحالة السكانية لمكة وتركيبها الإجتماعي والأقوام التي شاركت قريش المنازل والأعمال، كما تطرق إلى أصل كلمة قريش والشخص الذي اقترنت به التسمية، ونسب قريش وأصل انحدارها، وبحث أيضاً في بطون القبيلة أيام إستقرارها في مكة، إلى ذلك عرض المؤلف العلاقات مع القبائل العربية لقريش، فتحدث عن الحلف وأهميته، وكيف تمكنت قريش من تحقيق تحالفات مع القبائل العربية ومع البلدان المحيطة بها، لأغراض متشابكة بين سياسية وتجارية واجتماعية وحربية ودينية. كما خصص قسماً من الكتاب للجانب التجاري والإقتصادي، فأوضح أهمية مكة التجارية وبالتالي دور قريش في توظيف هذا المركز التجاري وتطويره.
واختتم الكتاب بدراسة (الوظائف في مكة) منذ بداية بناء الكعبة إلى أيام الجراهمة وخزاعة، ثم تناولها أيام قصي وما بعد قصي، مسلطاً الأضواء على الوظائف من حيث تخصصها، فقسمها على ثلاث مجاميع هي الوظائف الدينية والوظائف الإدراية والوظائف الحربية، موضحاً معاني كل وظيفة والقائمين عليها، وأخيراً تناول المؤلف بالدراسة الكعبة ورجال الدين مقارنة مع بقية المعابد الدينية والقائمين عليها.
