الأغاني والأناشيد ذات أهمية كبيرة للكبار والصغار، ولكنها أكثر أهمية للصغار بما فيها من موسيقى وإيقاع، وصور تخاطب الوجدان، وتثير في نفس الطفل الفن والجمال، ويمكن أن تكون الأغاني والأشعار عاملاً مهماً في تكوين الطفل لإجتماعياً إذا ما تم اختيارها بعناية من جانب المعلم في الصف وتم إلقاءها وتدريسها بطريقة تربوية سليمة. وقد تعددت الكتب التي تناولت الأغاني والأشعار، ولكن الكاتب "إميل ناصيف" يتميز بكتابه "أروع ما قيل من أغانٍ وأشعار للأطفال" ذلك أنه تم تظهيره للكتاب وفق قواعد لغوية، وتعابير فصيحة جميلة تتضمن في مادتها حكم وأمثال وأقوال مأثورة وأغانٍ وأناشيد، تراعي مقدرة الطفل على الحفظ، وحسن الإستيعاب، والتذكر.
يبدأ الكتاب بمدخل عن (الإستظهار: تعريفه، وأهميته) والمقصود بـ "الإستظهار" كل ما يستظهره (أي يحفظه غيباً) الطفل أو الولد، وخاصة الأشعار والأغاني. وتتضمن موضوعاته: مقطوعات شعرية ونثرية سهلة، أناشيد، صلوات، أغانٍ، أبيات حكمية، أمثال مفيدة، حيث يشرح المؤلف طريقة تدريس المحفوظات في الصفين: التمهيدي (الروضة الثانية) والأول. وفي الصفوف: الثاني، والثالث، والرابع، والخامس مع إبداء ملاحظات عامة على المدرس الإلتزام بها. يلي ذلك عشرة محاور، يتضمن كل محور أناشيد وأغانٍ ونوتات موسيقية لكل نشيد تتمحور حول موضوعات (الدين – الوطن – الأسرة – التربية والأخلاق – المدرسة – الحيوانات والطيور – الطبيعة والفصول – الألعاب – العمال – ومتفرقات أخرى). وأخيراً ملحق عن: المنهج الموسيقي اللبناني المقرّر عام 1971م.
