يهدف هذا الكتاب الى إلقاء الضوء على انتخابات هيئة مكتب المجلس التنفيذي للاتحاد العمالي العام، التي جرت في 24 نيسان/ابريل 1997، وما انطوت عليه تلك الانتخابات من تدخلات وتجاذبات أدت السلطة فيها دوراً أساسياً، وأسفرت في حصيلتها عن نتائج كان أهمها تقسيم الاتحاد العمالي العام، كأداة نقابية ممثلة للطبة العاملة في لبنان، ولجمهور عريض من أصحاب الدخل المتدني، وعن شرذمة اتحادات ونقابات عمالية كثيرة وتقسيمها، وبالتالي عن تراجع المطالب الشعبية والمعيشية الى حد كبير.
