تشكل الأسرة نواة التنظيم الاجتماعي، فالمجتمع لا يتكون من مجموعة أفراد كما يرى البعض، وإنما يتكون من مجموعة من الأسر. ولذلك فإن الأسرة تعتبر مركزاً للأنشطة الاقتصادية والاجتماعية، كما تتمحور حولها حياة الأفراد والجماعات على اختلاف أنماط معيشتهم وانتماءاتهم والأسرة كونها نظاماً اجتماعياً أساسياً لا يخلو منه مجتمع من المجتمعات فهي تدخل في علاقات متشابكة مع النظم الاجتماعية الأخرى، فتتأثر بها وتؤثر فيها.
وعلى الرغم مما ذهبت إليه بعض الدراسات التي أكدت أن القبيلة والأسرة الممتدة ما زالتا تشكلان بعداً أساسياً له تأثيراته في البناء الاجتماعي في هذه المجتمعات، فإن عوامل التغير الداخلية والخارجية التي تعرضت لها مجتمعات العالم العربي بوجه عام، ومجتمعات دول الخليج العربية بوجه خاص، نتج عنها تحولات وتغيرات بنائية شملت كل جوانب الحياة الاجتماعية والاقتصادية والسياسية والثقافية، الأمر الذي أدى إلى ظهور تناقضات كثيرة انعكست آثارها على الأسرة، الخلية الأولى المكونة لهذه المجتمعات. ومن هنا يمكن القول إن الأسرة مرآة تعكس التحولات التي تحدث على مستوى الحدث. ومجتمع الإمارات شأنه شأن مجتمعات العالم النامي مرّ-وما يزال يمر-بمراحل من التطور والتغير والتنمية، مما أثر بصورة واضحة في الأسرة الإماراتية التي تغيرت تغيراً ملموساً في جوانبها البنائية والوظيفية. الأمر الذي انعكس على الشباب الإماراتي سواء بشكل مباشر أو غير مباشر، فالشخصية الإنسانية هي نتاج عمليات التنشئة الاجتماعية التي تلعب فيها الأسرة دوراً مهماً.
وإذا كانت الشخصية هي مجموعة الصفات والخصائص الاجتماعية والبدنية والعقلية التي يكتسبها الفرد من خلال تفاعله مع البيئة التي يمر بها في هذه البيئة، فمما لا شك فيه أن البيئة الأسرية تقوم بدور رئيس وفاعل في حياة الشباب الإماراتي تشكيل شخصيتهم. ومن هنا تحاول هذه الورقة أن تقدم تحليلاً سوسيولوجياً للتغيرات التي طرأت على الأسرة الإماراتية، وانعكاس ذلك على الشباب في مجتمع دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة.
