محمود الزعبي ( 1935 - 21 أيار 2000 خربة غزالة)، مهندس وسياسي كان رئيس وزراء سوريا من 1 تشرين الثاني 1987 إلى 7 آذار 2000.
النشأة والتعليم
ولد الزعبي لأسرة سنية في عام 1935 في خربة غزالة، وهي قرية تبعد 85 كيلومتراً إلى الجنوب من دمشق في منطقة حوران.
حصل على شهادة الهندسة الزراعية من جامعة دمشق
حياته السياسية
عمل بوزارة الزراعة، ثم عين مديراً عاماً لمشروع حوض الفرات في محافظة الرقة، ومنها إلى وزارة الزراعة ومجلس الشعب. انتخب رئيساً لمجلس الشعب من 16 تشرين الثاني 1981 إلى 18 شباط 1987.

Book Description
البحث عن السلام والفضيلة وسر الوجود هو الموضوع الذي تتمحور حوله أحداث "رسالة قبل الرحيل" للروائي محمود الزعبي، ويفعل ذلك عن طريق رجل صالح يدعى (الشيخ الحكيم) الذي طاف الآفاق بحثاً عن (الرجل الفقيه)، حيث تشكل هاتان الشخصيتان المحوريتان مرتكز العمل وغايته ورسالته النهائية "إن مواجهة الظلم والظالمين، هو واجب وفرض على كل إنسان محبّ للعدالة والخير والسلام، لأنه إن تخلى عن واجبه كإنسان، لطغتْ شريعة الغاب، وتدمرت كل المجتمعات".
وفي هذه الرواية يحاول الزعبي تقديم صورة مثالية للمجتمع الذي يريد ويتمناه كل إنسان ، فعلى الرغم من أن الشخصيات التي تتمحور حولها الحكاية متصوفة ومنصرفة إلى العبادة والتأمل، إلا أنها تبدو فاعلة في الرواية وتشكل في أحد وجوهها نوعاً من الصراع بين الخير والشر والإلتزام بقول الحق والجهر به، أي أنها تقرن القول بالعمل.
"رسالة قبل الرحيل" عنوان لرواية ذات مدلول ديني يجوب من خلالها محمود الزعبي أفقاً جديداً في الشكل الروائي يكمل به أعماله، ويثبت قيمته الإيجابية ورسالته التي يتوجد بها إلى الكل أن أبحثوا عن السلام والحب والفضيلة.
