تميزت القصيدة العربية الحديثة بتغير لافت بعد الحرب العالمية الثانية على المستوى الشكلي والضمني، إذ زودت بمجموعة من الأدوات الشعرية، كالتّناص والتّرميز اللّغوي والأسطورة والقناع والتكرار والتجارب الإنسانية العامة، وغيرها من الأساليب الجديدة التي غمرت القصيدة بصيغة كثيفة أغنت التجربة الشعرية دلالة وبلاغة وعمقاً.
ولعلّ أبرز هذه الأساليب جميعاً هو (أسلوب التكرار) الذي أصبح ظاهرة تميز الشعر العربي الحديث من غيره، حيث إنّ كثيراً من الشعراء الرواد وظفوه بصورة لافتة، نظراً إلى ما يقدمه من فاعلية في بنية الخطاب الشعري الجديد، ولئن كان قديماً من الأساليب التي يعاب عليها الشاعر، فهو حديثاً من الأساليب البلاغية التي (تغني المعنى وترفعه إلى درجة الأصالة).
ونظراً إلى أهمية التكرار كأسلوب جديد في الشعر العربي الحديث، وبما أنه موضوع يتصف بنوع من الخصوبة والبكارة، فهو يشبه - إلى حد كبير - ظاهرة الأسطورة، وذلك من خلال مختلف الدلالات التي يقدمها وعلى مختلف المستويات وبأساليب متنوعة تختلف من شاعر إلى آخر.
لهذا السبب يذهب بعض الباحثين إلى البحث في ثنايا هذه الظاهرة إستناداً إلى ما يقدمه الشعراء وما أكثر ما نجده في شعر الرواد أمثال: صلاح عبد الصبور، بدر شاكر السّياب، نازك الملائكة، عبد الوهاب البياتي، أمل دنقل، أحمد مطر، وغيرهم كثْر.
