في عام 300هـ / 912م بُويع عبد الرحمن الثالث بالإمارة على الأندلس فبدأ سياسته أولاً بالقضاء على جميع الحركات المناوئة التي أرهقت الأمراء الأمويين السابقين له، وثانياً قيامه بالتصدي خُطر الممالك الإسبانية في الشمال، والدولة الفاطمية في المغرب، وثالثاً إعلانه الخلافة الأموية، ونلقبه بالناصر لدين الله، وقد اصطلح المؤرخون على تسمية الفترة التي أعقيت إعلان الخلافة الأموية في الأندلس سنة 316هـ / 928م بعصر الخلافة، والتي استمرت إلى سنة 422هـ / 1030م.
اهتم الخليفة الناصر بالنشاط الإقتصادي، بما في ذلك الزراعة، والتجارة، والصناعة، والعمران، وصك العملة، فازدهرت هذه الأنشطة إزدهاراً كبيراً حتى أصبح عصر الخليفة الناصر عصراً ذهبياً، ومن أفضل العصور التاريخية التي مرت بها الأندلس.
تعددت الدراسات التي تناولت تاريخ عصر الخلافة في الأندلس، ولكن هذه الدراسات ركزت على الجوانب السياسية، والإجتماعية، وهي تتشابه في موضوعاتها، في حين أنَّ الدراسات الإقتصادية خلال هذه الفترة كانت قليلة، ولم توجد دراسة متخصصة تتعلق بالأنشطة الإقتصادية في عهد الخليفة الناصر، ومنه، جاء اختيار موضوع الحياة الإقتصادية في الأندلس في عهد هذا الخليفة.
هدفت الدراسة إلى إبراز شخصية الخليفة الناصر ودراستها من جميع جوانبها، وسلَّطت الضوء على الجانب الأهم وهو الإقتصاد، وذلك من خلال الحديث عن الزراعة، والتجارة، والصناعة، والنظم المالية.
ومن أجل تحقيق هذه الأهداف وإعطاء صورة واضحة عن هذه الموضوعات، فقد تم الإطلاع والإعتماد على عدد وافر من المصادر والمراجع العربية والأجنبية التي اهتمت بهذا الموضوع.
