سعينا في دراستنا المركزية هذه عن السلطان مراد الرابع إلى تناول الأحداث الداخلية والخارجية في عهد هذا السلطان، في ضوء المصادر الأصلية، ولم يكن المراد إغراق البحث بالهوامش والحواشي المكثفة، إنما تم الإكتفاء بعزو الاحداث المهمة فقط، ذلك أن هذه الدراسة تهدف إلى مخاطبة قطاعات عريضة من الناس.
ونتيجة الحملتين التي قام بها السلطان مراد الرابع شرقاً فقد وصف بأنه "الإسكندر الثاني" تارة "وإسكندر الزمان" تارة أخرى، كما وصف أحياناً بأنه "سلطان الشرق" وذلك مقارنة له بالسلطان ياووظ سليم الذي قام بحملتين كبيرتين على الشرق، ويملك مقدونياً ذائع الصيت الإسكندر الأكبر الذي احتل مكانة إسطورية في الأدب الإسلامي في المصادر المعاصرة لذلك العهد، وقد سّمينا كتابا "سلطان الشرق مراد الرابع" مستوحين هذه التسمية من ذلك الوصف.
وكما هي الحال في مجال الدراسات الإجتماعية كافة، وكذلك في الأبحاث التاريخية فإن الكلمة الأخيرة لم تقل وبعد، وهذا القول ينسحب أيضاً على عملنا هذا، فإن سدّ هذا الكتاب ثغرة في مجاله فبها ونعم، بل إن ذلك مصدر سعادة كبير للمؤلف.
