تمس الحاجة إلى ان يكون المعلمون والقائمون على عملية التعلم والتعليم وتصميم المناهج وأساليب التدريس بل والمتعلمون أنفسهم على بينة من الأنماط التي يمكن أن يتعلم بها الأفراد وسماتها وخصائص من ينتمي إلى كل منها من المتعلمين لغرض إعادة النظر في تصميم المناهج المدرسية وطرائق التدريس واساليبه لتلبي ما بين المتعلمين من تفاوت في العوامل التي تقدم ذكرها، فضلاً عن ان إكتشاف ما يفضله المتعلم من انماط التعلم وأساليب التفكير في معالجة المعلومات يمكن أن يسهم في إرشاد المتعلمين وتوجيههم إلى النمط الذي يستجيب لخصائصهم وسماتهم ليتعلموا بفاعلية مع إختزال الوقت والجهد اللازمين للتعلم.
وإستجابة لمقتضى ما تقدم حاول المؤلف تناول ما يتعلق بأنماط التعلم مفهوماً وحاجة وأنواعاً وتصنيفات وخصائص وسمات كل نمط ومن ينتمي إليه من المتعلمين زيادة على ما بني على أساس هذه الأنماط من نماذج تعليم وتعلم حديثة وما يتصل بها من إتجاهات تربوية حديثة في التعليم وما يتصل بهذه الإتجاهات من نماذج تعليم وإستراتيجيات تدريس فجعل كتابه في ثلاثة فصول موسعة، ففي الفصل الأول: "أنماط التعلم وتصنيفها وخصائصها"، ثانياً: "أنماط التعلم المعرفية Cognitive Styles"، ثالثاً: "أنماط التعلم على أساس شخصية المتعلم"، رابعاً: "أنماط التعلم على أساس وظائف نصفي الدماغ".
أما الفصل الثاني: "إتجاهات حديثة في التعليم"، ثانياً: "التعلم التعاوني Cooperative Learning"، ثالثاً: "التعلم النشط Active Learning"، رابعاً: "التعلم المتقن Masterly Learning"، الفصل الثالث: "نماذج تعليم حديثة"، ثانياً: "نماذج وإستراتيجيات حديثة تتصل بالتعلم النشط"، ثالثاً: "إستراتيجيات ونماذج حديثة تتصل بحل المشكلات"، رابعاً: "إستراتيجيات حديثة تتصل بالقراءة وأنشطتها".
