(التراث)، عمِادُ الحضارةِ وذاكرِةُ الشعوب، يختَصُّ بكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ من الأُمم، فهوَ لصيقُها الحَميم وإمتدادُها المُقيم، منذ شَبّت الشعوبُ على خصائِصها، وَوَعَتْ أعرافَها، ودَرَجت على تقاليدها.
و"الزجلُ" لونٌ من ألوانِ التراث، قديمُ العهد في لبنان يخرجُ - بطبيعة كونه عملاً فكرياً - من الإشارةِ إلى النطق، وأعني بهِ من حركةِ الإنسانِ إلى شعوره؛ ويتعدَّى البَداءَةَ العمياء، لأنه يتجاوزُ المادةَ إلى الفِكر أي إلى الروح، فهو لا يفتأ يُولَد ويتجّدد، ليبقى مشعّاً في عين الحاضرِ والآتي من الزمان.
وللزّجل "اللبناني" وجهٌ مستقل، وطعمٌ فنيٌّ خاص، لا يضاهيه فيهما أي شعرٍ عاميٍّ آخر، في بلاد العروبةِ كلها.
أَوَ ليسَ من شطوطِ لبنان أبحرَ (الحرفُ) إلى أقاصي الدنيا! فأضاءَ المجاهل وعَلَّمَ الشعوب؟...
وبعد... فالشاعر - في مذهبي - فنانّ موهوب، مِيْزَتُهُ تأليفُ الكلامِ الجميل، "تعبيراً" عمّا يقعُ في حسِّهِ وعلمهِ، و"تطويراً" لما يجري في خَيالِهِ وذَهنه؛ فنشأ الشاعرُ اللبنانيُ يستمدُّ تعبير من تاريخه الأصيل، ويستوحي صوره من طبيعة لبنانه الساحرة، ويمسحُ على الحسِّ واللَّون، بقلمٍ يُحركُهُ الوجدان ويسقيه الإِلهام، فافتَنَّ في قولِهِ أيَّ إفتِتان، وخَلَّفَ غُبارهُ في عيونِ اللاَّحقين.
