يعتبر كتاب "عيون التواريخ" الذي ألَّفه الشَّيخ المُؤرِّخ "صلاح الدين محمد بن شاكر الكُتُبي" المولود في داريا وهي قرية من قرى الشَّام بالغُوْطة سنة 681هـ، والمتوفي بدمشق سنة 764هـ، من أنفس الكتب الأدبية والتاريخية والعلمية المفيدة.
كان "ابن شاكر" هذا في مستهل حياته فقيراً معدماً ولكنه بعدما تعاطى تجارة الكتب أثناء إقامته الدائمة في دمشق بعد إنتقاله إليها من داريا وإقامته فيها حتى وفاته أصبح واحداً من المؤرخين العلماء الحُفَّاظ الأثرياء.
يشتمل هذا الكتاب كتاب "عيون التاريخ" على عشرة مُجلَّدات حسب ذكر "ابن كثير" في كتابه "البداية والنهاية"، وهو مشتملاً على تراجم الخلفاء والعلماء والفقهاء والأدباء والشعراء المشهورين فقط وهو مرتَّب على السِّنين، ومشتمل على الكثير من الأشعار وخاصة لشعراء مقلِّين مغمورين، وفيه فوائد جمَّة.
