يسرد لنا سامي بن عبد الله المغلوث في هذا الكتاب سيرة أبي بكر رضي الله عنه وعهده بشكل مبسط ويسير، مما يجعله مقدمًا إلى كل الفئات وليس إلى فئة بعينها. ويبدأ المؤلف الكتاب بالحديث عن أبي بكر رضي الله عنه في العهد المكي والمدني، ثم ينتقل بعد ذلك ليسرد لنا خلافته وما دار في هذه الفترة من أحداث كثيرة، ويسلط الضوء على حروب الردة التي اشتهر بها عهد أبي بكر الصديق، ويوضح لنا دور أبي بكر في هذه الحروب وكيف استطاع أن يقضي عليها في مهدها. ثم يبدأ في سرد الفتوحات الإسلامية التي تمت في عهده، والحروب التي خاضها ضد الفرس والروم، وغير ذلك من الأحداث التي يقدمها لنا بشكل بسيط وبلغة سهلة.
