يهدف هذا الكتاب إلى دراسة إستراتيجيات الدمج وأساليب التدخل المبكر، وقد اشتمل الكتاب على أربعة عشر فصلاً، ويسعى هذا الكتاب إلى التركيز على دراسة ذوي الإحتياجات الخاصة، وأساليب وإستراتيجيات الدمج - جنباً إلى جنب - داخل مدارس العاديين.
وقد بدأ تحول ذوي الإعاقات الشديدة الذين كانوا قادرين فقط على العيش داخل المنازل، إلى أن تحولوا إلى الإندماج داخل فصول خاصة في المدارس العامة العادية للطلاب، والتي يمكن أن تدار للمعوقين في مجموعات صغيرة نسبياً، وخلال هذه الفترة الإستثنائية قام المربين بدور إستتشاري، في المساعدة في تدريب المدرسين الآخرين على طرق التعامل مع الطلاب المعوقين، وبحلول عام 1970 كان مجال التربية الخاصة قد تقدم في العالم كله، وشمل ذلك مجموعة متنوعة من المواقع والبرامج التعليمية لطلاب ذوي الإعاقات والإحتياجات المختلفة.
