يهدف المؤلف من كتابه هذا إكساب المتكلم صنعة الكلام بوجهيه الخطاب والجواب، وذلك من خلال إثارة معادن المعاني، وقطف ثمرة النحو واللغة، وهي الناحية العلمية المتمثلة في أحكام النطق وحسن النظم والقول وسلامة التعبير، وقد جاء ذلك ضمن دراسة قدمها المؤلف في نطاق سبعة فصول.
أتى الفصل الأول للحديث عن "الكلام: طرق اكتسابه وكيفية تعلمه"، وعالج الفصل الثاني لغة الخطاب وآلية الكلام وتقنياته، وعُقِد الفصل الثالث لمعالجة لغة الجواب: أدواته ومهاراته، وخصص الفصل الرابع للتعبير عن الفاحش والسخيف: أساليبه وطرقه، وتناول الفصل الخامس المنهج السوي والأسلوب العالي، الذي يقتضي جمع النظرية بالتطبيق وما فيه من طرد الملل ونفي الكلل عن طريق إثبات المقول المثل، وفي الفصل السادس أتى المؤلف فيه على ذكر إشارات الكلام ورموزه وذلك لكثرتها في كلام العربي، وتبعه الفصل السابع الموسوم بـ"نظم الكلام والمعاني النحوية".
