لا يخفى على جميع المؤلفين مكانة النبي الكريم صلى الله عليه وسلم، وأنه رحمة من الله تعالى لعبادة، كما لا يخفى على ذي لبّ أن جميع حركات النبي وسكناته صلى الله عليه وسلم حجة على الخلق. والنبي الأعظم صلى الله عليه وسلم لم يترك جانباً من جوانب الحياة إلا قد تكلم فيه وأوضح طريقه وبن معالمه المحقّة الصحيحة والفاسدة، إما بقول أو بفعل أو بتقرير أو بإشارة.
ومن هذه الجوانب المهمة التي نبه عليها الرسول الكريم مفهوم أهل البيت سلام الله عليهم أجمعين. ونظراً لأهمية هذا الجانب فقد فيض الله سبحانه وتعالى رجالاً كالجبال الشوامخ: يعنون بجمع وإظهار مناقب وفضائل أهل البيت على لسان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم.
والإمام "أبي محمد بن عبد الواحد الموصلي" هو واحد ممن كتبوا في هذا المجال، ويعد كتابه هذا من أهم الكتب المدونة في هذا المجال وقد رتبه على ثلاثة أبواب في كل منها فصول تحدث من أولها عن فضائل النبي محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم، أما الثاني فخصصه لفضائل اعترته عليهم من الله السلام وذكر من الثالث كل ما يختص بولايتهم ومحبتهم وفضلهم.
