سعد محمد رحيم (مواليد 1957 - توفي في 9 أبريل 2018) كان كاتب ومؤلف قصص عراقي، عمل في التدريس والصحافة، ولقد صدرت لهُ ستة مجموعات قصصية، وعدة كتب فكرية ونقدية، كما أصدر ثلاث روايات: هي رواية "غسق الكراكي" التي فازت بجائزة الإبداع الروائي العراقي سنة 2000، ورواية "ترنيمة امرأة، شفق البحر"، ورواية "مقتل بائع الكتب" التي وصلت إلى القائمة القصيرة لجائزة البوكر العربية 2017، ورواية "فسحة للجنون" كما صدرت له عدة كتب ودراسات منها :استعادة ماركس" و"المثقف الذي يدس أنفه"، وصدرت روايتين له بعد رحيله هما "لما تحطمت الجرة" ورواية "القطار إلى منزل هانا".
كما حصل على جائزة "كتارا" للرواية العربية لعام 2016 عن روايتهِ غير المنشورة "ظلال جسد.. ضفاف الرغبة".

حتى وهو في ذروة تورطه مع الخيال يتحرّش السارد بالتاريخ، فالتاريخ يتلبّسه ويفاجئه بين لحظة وأخرى، ولا نص سردي يمكن أن يتملّص من سطوة التاريخ مهما سعى إلى الإكتفاء بذاته، والتوسُّل بالخيال قد يكون محاولة لمثل هذا التملُص، لكنه أيضاً لا يستقيم ما لم يكن مدعوماً بفكرة عن التاريخ، أو بإيحاءات منه، طالما أننا في نهاية المطاف نُعنى بالتجربة التي يستحيل أن تتبرأ من رحمه التاريخي.
التجربة (سواء في الحياة أو الكتابة، أو في كليهما معاً) ومهما كانت ضئيلة وتافهة لا بد أن تكون متشرّبة بزخم الوجود ونسفه، والسارد وجود بذاته ولذاته، لا يقدر أن يفعل (يسرد) من غير أن يغدو حضوراً في التاريخ ووعياً به.
فيما أمضى تولستوي أربع سنين يجمع الوثائق ويقرأ عن حملة نابليون على روسيا قبل أن يُشرع بكتابة رواية (الحرية والسلام) التي هي عمل تخييل كبير يستند إلى وقائع تاريخية متشابكة.
