قبل ماية وحوالي عشرين سنة، وبالتحديد سنة 1888م، أبصر النور طفل ليس كأترابه في قرية وادعة تربض عند سفح هضبة مطلة على سهل فسيح الأرجاء، هذا الطفل، المولود، انكب أهله منذ حداثته على تعليمه في أرقى المعاهد وصولاً إلى الجامعة الأميركية في بيروت. لقد تنبه أهله باكراً إلى نباهته وبداهته، فدعموا موهبته الشعرية وهو في مقتبل العمر. وهكذا نحتت موهبته الشعرية بمفردات وقوافي عميقة المعنى وجميلة المغزى.. ولما توفاه الله عن عمر يناهز السابعة والخمسين ترك وراءه تراثاً أدبياً عظيماً وإرثاً شعرياً تضيق الصفحات بمطولاته ومعلقاته. وعلى الرغم من مكانة إرثه إلا أنه لم يلقَ العناية اللازمة من قبل المحققين: وهذا ما دفع "بسيم بحليس" وهو ولده إلى جمع ديوانه هذا والذي يحتوي على القسم المتبقي من إنتاجه الغزير وبالرجوع إلى مضمون هذا الديوان نجد أنه جاء متضمناً الأبواب الآتية: المديح، التهاني، الرثاء، الشذرات الشعرية، الهجاء، الشوقيات، التشطير والاحتذاء، الجبرانيات ونشيد الإنشاد وهو سفر مجيد من أسفار سليمان الحكيم. وهذه الفنون التي عالجها في أشعاره سيتصفحها فعد هذا الديوان واحدة واحدةً، بإيجاز وباختصار، ومن ثم سيختار أجملها وأعذبها وسيجمعها ملحقة بالدراسة العشرية التي جمعها في بداية الديوان.
