من هنا، رأى المؤلف هذا الكتاب أن الكتابة عن الشيخ عبد القادر وطريقته في هذا العصر ضرورة ملحة، لأن الإنسان بات يحس الآن أكثر من أي وقت مضى بوطأة المذاهب المادية، وضغط متطلبات البدن، وسبل العيش القاسية، فهو بحاجة إلى ما يرضي عقله، ويشبع روحه، ويعيد إليه ثقته بنفسه، ويشعره بالطمأنينة التي بدأ يفقدها في زحمة الحياة المادية وما فيها من ألوان الصراع.
كما إن المطالعة سير هؤلاء الزهاد، والوقوف على آرائهم، وإستلهام مواقفهم يسلّح المرء بقيم روحية جديدة تعينه على مجابهة الصعاب، وتحقق له التوازن النفسبدني؛ ولقد حاول بعض الصوفية تأسيس طرق صوفية، إلا أن الطريقة القادرية في طليعة هذه الحركات المعتدلة التي تحاول أن تربي المريد على المبادئ القرآنية والإرشادات والتوجيهات النبوية.
وعليه، قسم الكتاب إلى قسمين: القسم الأول تحدث فيه المؤلف عن حياة الشيخ عبد القادر، وذكر المؤلف آراءه في العديد من مقامات وأحوال الطريق إلى الله تعالى، القسم الثاني خصصه المؤلف لأعلام القادرية أي المشايخ الذين حاولوا السير على نهج الشيخ عبد القادر والنسج على منواله.
