هذا كتاب هو الثالث في سلسلة "علوم وتكنولوجيا وصناعات" وهو يتناول المعادن النفيسة وبالتالي يستكمل ما جاء في الكتاب الثاني من السلسلة والذي درا متنه حول الجواهر والأحجار الكريمة لأن كلا من هذين الموضوعين يستكمل الموضوع الآخر، وذلك من حيث القيمة ومن حيث صناعة الجواهر، حيث أن الغالبية العظمى تكون لها قلائد وحاضنات وحافظات وما أشبه من المعادن النفسية المختلفة وبخاصة من الذهب والبلاتين والفضة وغيرها من المعادن النفسية، وذلك مع أن تلك المعادن النفيسة تبتعد عن الأصول السيليكاتية، والتي هي الموضوع الأساسي والرئيسي لسلسلة هذه الكتب.
والعودة لمتن هذا الكتاب نجد أنه يضم بين طياته دراسة تم توزيع مادتها على أربعة أبواب تناول الباب الأول الموضوع بصورة لمّاحة. وتناول الباب الثاني مواضيع المعادن النفيسة وبالأصل، قديمها كالذهب والفضة وحديثها كالبلاتين ومجموعته وذلك على حدّ سواء. وقد تم إضافة المعادن المستعملة في صناعة العملة النقدية كالنحاس والنيكل.
وأما الباب الثالث فتناول المعادن النفيسة ولكن (النفيسة بالاستعمال) ففي الصناعات الحديثة أصبحت بعض المعادن تستعمل في منتجات باهظة الثمن كالطائرات والمواد الحركية والسيارات وما أشبه، وذلك مثل معادن ألومينيوم والحديد والرصاص وخلافها، والتي أصبحت نفيسة ولكن في استعمالاتها في المنتجات النفيسة، لأنها ميتانفيسة بالأصل أو من أصلها.
وأما الباب الرابع فقد تناول أيضاً بقية العناصر النفيسة وبالاستعمال، وهي تلك المعادن (المشعة) كاليورانيوم والبلوتونيوم، والتي تستعمل في صناعة القنابل الذرية وفي الصناعات النووية الأخرى والتي صارت أغلى من البلاتين نظراً لتلك الاستعمالات النووية.
