في بعض منه، ألّف هذا الكتاب في ذكرى "النكبة" (الكارثة)، وهو المصطلح الذي يستخدمه الفلسطينييون لوصف أحداث العام1948، عندما استخدمت القوّات اليهودية الطرد والإرهاب والمجازر لتسهيل إيجاد دولة إسرائيل. وفي أيار/1948، أعلن دافيد بن غوريون ولادة إسرائيل كأمّة مستقلّة، منتهكاً بذلك قرار مجلس الأمن الدولي رقم //46// (الصادر في 17 نيسان/1948)، الذي طلب من كلّ الجماعات السياسية في فلسطين"..الامتناع، بانتظار مزيد من الاعتبار لحكومة فلسطين المستقبلية من قبل ادّعاءات أو مواقف أي من المجتمعين (اليهود أو العرب)...". وفي أيار/1949، ومن خلال آلية قرار الجمعية العامّة رقم //273//، انتسبت إسرائيل إلى الأمم المتحدة كدولة ذات سيادة، شرط تلبيتها كلّ متطلبات الأمم المتحدة، بما فيها حقّ العودة للاجئين الفلسطينيين. وقد أكّد ذلك ما كانت تتمنّاه القيادة الإسرائيلية، ألا وهو قبول المجتمع الدولي بما كانت قد حقّقته بالإرهاب والتّوغّل العسكري وبتجاهل ما لم تجده مناسباً من القرارات الأمميّة؛ فقد أمست الأرضية جاهزة.
و يقدّم هذا الكتاب بعض المعلومات الأساسية عن المحنة الفلسطينية وعن ملامح النّضال الفلسطيني في السّنوات الاخيرة. وبصورة روتينية، كانت وسائل الإعلام الغربية تسيء تصوير الصراع الإسرائيلي-الفلسطيني، مناصرة إسرائيل على الدّوام. وقد وضع هذا الكتاب ليشكّل مساعمة في محاولة تصحيح الصورة وإعادة التّوازن.
