ما بين ولادته واستشهاده، كان ناجي العلي، شمولي الانتماء والعقل والتأثير، يرقب بنظرته الثاقبة تناقضات الواقع العربي عامة، والفلسطيني خاصة، يختزنها في أعماق نفسه ويقدم ذاته وأفكاره وأحاسيسه وعالمه، وكل ما في حياته الروحية والشخصية من زخم وغنى وحيوية. وهو بإفصاحه عما يعتمل في أعماق نفسه يعبر بوعي عما هو هام، اجتماعياً وسياسياً، عماله دلالة ومعنى اجتماعياً وإنسانياً. فقد جعل من معاناته الذاتية محوراً لكل ما يرسم، وتفجر إبداعه الفني بإيقاظ الموهبة والقريحة التي كانت تغفو في أعماق لا وعيه، ولم تكن بحاجة إلا إلى من يوقظها فتلاقت دائرتا الوعي واللاوعي عند ناجي، وأعلنت عن موهبته الكافة وتحاول هذه الدراسة الجث في إبداع ناجي العلي. فالفصل الأول محاولة لإبراز موقع ناجي الفنان ضمن الحركة الفنية التشكيلية على الصعيدين العالمي والغربي. وجاء الفصل الثاني ليتناول جانبين مترابطين من حياة هذا الفنان المناضل أولهما سيرته الشخصية، فيما يغطي الجانب الثاني فن الكاريكاتور عند ناجي. أما الفصل الثالث فكان دراسة لنماذج في كاريكاتور ناجي.
