اليافعي (698 - 768 هـ = 1298 - 1367 م)
عبد الله بن أسعد بن علي اليافعي، عفيف الدين: مؤرخ، باحث، متصوف، من شافعية اليمن.
نسبته إلى يافع من حمير. ومولده ومنشأه في عدن.
حج سنة 712 ه، وعاد إلى اليمن. ثم رجع إلى مكة سنة 718 فأقام، وتوفي بها.
من كتبه «مرآة الجنان، وعبرة اليقظان، في معرفة حوادث الزمان - ط» أربعة مجلدات، و «نشر المحاسن الغالية، في فضل مشايخ الصوفية أصحاب المقامات العالية - ط» و «الدر النظيم في خواص القرآن العظيم - ط» رسالة، و «مرهم العلل المعضلة - ط» و «روض الرياحين في مناقب الصالحين - ط» و «أسنى المفاخر في مناقب الشيخ عبد القادر - خ» .

"مرهم العلل المفصلة في الرد على أئمة المعتزلة" هو عنوان هذه الرسالة التي بين أيدينا والتي هي من تأليف المؤرخ والباحث الصوفي "عبد الله بن علي اليافعي" المعروف بتحيزه للفرقة الشافعية وبتحيزه للمعتصبين من الأشعرية، وكتابه هذه يحتوي على الرد الذي دونه على سؤال وجهه إليه بعض الفقهاء الزيدية، يسأله فيه عن رأيه ببعض المسائل الخلافية التي تتعلق بأصول الدين، وأشياء من شبه المعتزلة، كمسألة منزلة الغزالي، ومعرفة الفعل، وصفات الله وغيره. وما يستشف في ردود المؤلف أنه كان على ثقافة واسعة وعلم يبرز قي إمساكه بزمام القلم حتى لا يخرج عن نطاق موضوعه، كما ويستشف أنه كان شاعراً عظيماً، إذ كثير ما يستشهد على ما يذهب إليه بفريدة أو ببيت شعري يدونه في المقام.
