يتناول هذا الكتاب جانباً مهماً من فكر وحياة شيخ الإسلام "ابن تيمية" وهو الجانب الروحي المتزن والذي يتمثل بصلة العبد بربه من خلال ما أقره وبينه الشرع الحنيف.
وموقف الشيخ من التصوف يدل على سلامة تفكيره ورجاحة عقله وغزارة علمه وسعة صدره، فقد فصل بين التصوف كسبيل وبين الصوفية كسالكين فاعتبرهم مجتهدين في طاعة الله تعالى؛ فيهم السابق المقرب وفيهم المقتصد وفيهم من يذنب فيتوب أو لا يتوب، ومن المنتسبين إليهم من هو ظالم لنفسه عاصٍ لربه.
ثم يعرف التصوف بقوله: (فالتصوف إنتقال الإنسان من الإيمان بالغيب إلى مرتبة علم اليقين)؛ ثم يعرض الكاتب بعضاً من مواقف الشيخ الجريئة دفاعاً عن دينه وعن كرامة أمته في مناصحة الحاكم، وسعيه دائماً لوحدة الأمة.
فقد كان همّ الشيخ دائماً أن يعيد أمر الدين كما بينه النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم دون غلو أو تحريف أو إبتداع.
