عزيز العظمة هو كاتب ومفكر وباحث سوري ولد في دمشق عام 1947 م ، حاصل على شهادة الدكتوراه في العلوم الإسلامية من جامعة أكسفورد بعد أن تخرج منها، وكذلك درس في توبنغن في ألمانيا.
درّس في جامعات بيروت والكويت ومنذ 1985م عمل كبروفيسور للعلوم الإسلامية في جامعة الشارقة.

يحاول الكاتب اعانة القارئ على الالمام الكافي بنصوص التراث واعطاءه فكرة شافية عن سعة المسائل التي تكلم عليها ابن تيمية بوصفه فقيهاً حنبلياً دفع بالعقائد إلى الشارع في وقت كان السائد فيه ضرورة الجام العوام عن علم الكلام وبالضنانة بالعلم عن غير أهله.
