يسلط هذا الكتاب الضوء على تاريخ "المملكة البهمنية" (1347-1525م) التي تعد من الممالك الإسلامية الهندية المنسية على ما يرى مؤلف الكتاب. فيغوص في التاريخ القديم " للدكن"، الإسم التاريخي للمملكة ويعود الكاتب للقرن الثالث قبل الميلاد حتى وصول المسلمين إليها في (القسم الجنوبي من بلاد الهند) حيث "ظهر المسلمون أول ما ظهروا في الدكن عام 1294م عندما قام علاء الدين إبن أخي فيروز خلجي الدهلوي وزوج إبنته بغارة على مملكة دفاكرى وأجبر الراماجندرا على أداء الجزية لدهلي. وكانت المملكتان الجنوبيتان الرئيسيتان في ذلك العهد هما مملكة دفاكرى أو مهاراشترا وتحكمها أسرة اليادخا، ومملكة تلنكانة وتحكمها أسرة كاكتيا ... حتى واتسعت الفتوحات الإسلامية في الجنوب اتساعاً عظيماً على يد محمد بن تغلق، غير أن طغيانه بعث اليأس في قلوب قواده في الدكن، فانتفضوا عليه عام 1347 وتمكنوا بقيادة حسن خان الذي أسس الأسرة البهمنية متخذا لقب علاء بهمنشاه، من توطيد إستقلال الدكن ...".
وهكذا يتتبع الكاتب تاريخ المملكة البهمنية منذ نشوئها، مسلطاً الأضواء على التاريخ السياسي لكل عهد من حكامها وخصوصا أنها انقسمت إلى عدة ممالك مستقلة وحكمتها أسر "عادل شاهي" وهي الأسر التي أنشأها حكام الأقاليم في عهد الملوك البهمنيين المتأخرين.
أيضا يسلط الكاتب الضوء على أعلام الشيعة في ذلك العصر، وممن حكم منهم ودورهم في الحياة السياسية والدينية، إضافة إلى تخصيص قسم من الكتاب لنماذج من الصور واللوحات التاريخية والمخطوطات والرسائل والنقود التي تصور ثقافة تلك الحقبة من الزمن ...
ليس هناك الكثير من المعلومات التاريخية عن الدكن في فجر الحضارة ولعل أول ما وردنا من ذلك هو نبأ نزوح الآريين إلى مقاطعة برار في الدكن ومن ثم انحدروا حتى مهاراشترا واستوطنوا ضفة نهر كوداوري.
