يعد كتاب "تحفة القاري والمقري - شرح مقدمة ابن الجزري" الذي نقدمه اليوم محققاً، يعد من الكتب المتقدمة لشرح المقدمة المشهورة للإمام ابن الجزري، فمؤلفه محمد بن عمر الشهير ببحرق الحضرمي من علماء اليمن توفي 930هـ، وله مؤلفات كثيرة منها ما هو محقق ومنها ما هو غير ذلك، وعلى الرغم من شهرته إلا أنه لم ينل حظه من الشهرة، فالكثير من كتبه ما زال على شكل مخطوط غير محقق، ومنها ما هو مفقود، وقد وقف المحقق على نسختين من الكتاب وقرآها فأعجبه أسلوب المؤلف فيه، فهو كتاب قيم في شرح المقدمة الجزرية، وقد بين بحرق الحضرمي السبب في تأليف هذا الكتاب؛ لهذا تم تحقيق هذا الكتاب بإتباع المنهج العلمي الذي وضعه علماؤنا في تحقيق المخطوطات، وتمت خدمة نص الكتاب بأقصى طاقة، فعظا المحقق الآيات القرآنية إلى سورها، وخرج القراءات القرآنية والأحاديث النبوية الشريفة، وخرج أقوال العلماء من مفسرين وقراء وغيرها من كتبهم وكتب اللغة والنحو والمعاجم وغيرها لكي يخرج الكتاب في أبها حلة وأفضل تحقيق.
