أملى الأمين ديب كردية هذه المذكرات على الرفيقين علي محمد حمود وخالد باكير اللذين سجلاها على مجموعة من الأشرطة في إطار مشروع حزبي طموح هدف إلى حفظ تاريخ الحزب السوري القومي الاجتماعي من خلال مرويات عدد من الأمناء والرفقاء المخضرمين الذين ساهموا في مراحل زمنية مختلفة في صناعة تاريخ الحزب.
استغرقت تسجيلات الأمين ديب تسعة أشرطة تطلبت جلسات عدة على مدى أيام. وكان من الطبيعي والحالة هذه أن تحدث انقطاعات في السرد إلى جانب تكرار ذكر مرويات سبق الحديث عنها في مراحل ماضية، لكن أعادتها إلى ذهن الأمين ديب تداعيات الأحداث. ويضاف إلى ذلك أن الأمين ديب كان يتكلم من الذاكرة مباشرة ما قد يحتمل وقوع اختلاطات في بعض الأسماء والتواريخ.
اقتصر دور الرفيقين حمود وباكير على الاستماع، وعمداً في أحيان نادرة إلى التدخل للتدقيق في اسم ما أو للاستفسار عن واقعة معروفة لديهما لكن الأمين ديب مر عليها سريعاً على رغم أنه كان جزءاً أساسياً منها.
كل هذه العوامل أوجدت ثغرات طفيفة في النص، تمكنا من التغلب عليها بإعادة ترتيب السياق وتدقيق الأسماء والتواريخ من خلال الرجوع إلى أحاديث سبق للأمين ديب أن أدلى بها إلى مجلة "البناء –صباح الخير". وكذلك استفدنا من المذكرات المنشورة لعدد من الأمناء والرفقاء منهم الأمين عبد الله سعادة والأمين منير خوري، خصوصاً عن الانقلاب والمحاكمات والسجن. ورجعنا أيضاً إلى أعداد سابقة من المطبوعات الحزبية التي نشرت معلومات عن تلك المرحلة.
النتيجة التي وصلنا إليها في هذا الكتاب لا تشكل كل ما في جعبة الأمين ديب، غير أنها أصدق رواية لحياة حافلة أمضاها في النضال الحزبي الذي لم يتوقف لحظة حتى في أحلك الظروف... وإذا كان الجسد الآن قد تداعى تحت ضربات سنوات من السهر والتعب والألم فإن الروح ما زالت تشرقط بالشرارات نفسها التي أنارت الطريق أمام الأمين ديب للانتماء إلى النهضة في العام 1943.
