يأتي مقرر "5209 الرياضيات وطرائق تدريسها" بوصفه أحد مقررين يدرسا في تخصص التربية الابتدائية، فمن المعلوم أن التدريس في المرحلة الابتدائية، وبخاصة الصفوف الأربعة الأولى منها، يتطلب فهم المدرس وإتقانه تدريس المهارات الأساسية الثلاث القراءة، والكتابة، والحساب، فهذه المهارات هي البوابة الرئيسة التي يدخل منها الطفل إلى عالم الثقافة والعلم، كما تلازمه طيلة حياته، إذ لا غنى عنها لأي إنسان، في تعامله مع الأمور الحياتية اليومية على مختلف مستوياتها، ومساريها مهما صغر مركزه أو كبر.
وقد صمم المقرر لتحقيق الأهداف التسعة. وهو يتكون من ثماني وحدات دراسية هي: 1-الوحدة الأولى: الأعداد الطبيعية، والعمليات عليها، وأساليب تدريسها. 2-الوحدة الثانية: الأعداد الصحيحة، والعمليات عليها، وأساليب تدريسها. 3-الوحدة الثالثة: مبادئ أولية في نظرية الأعداد. 4-الوحدة الرابعة: الكسور العادية، والعمليات عليها، وأساليب تدريسها. 5-الوحدة الخامسة: الكسور العشرية، والعمليات عليها، وأساليب تدريسها. 6-الوحدة السادسة: النسبة والتناسب، وأساليب تدريسها. 7-الوحدة السابعة: حل المسألة الرياضية. 8-الوحدة الثامنة: التخطيط لتدريس الرياضيات.
وقد صمم المقرر بأسلوب يساعدك على التعلم ذاتياً، إذ قسمت كل وحدة من وحداته إلى أقسام رئيسة معتدلة في طولها، ويعالج كل منها موضوعات من الموضوعات الأساسية التي تنضوي في الموضوع العام للوحدة. كما اشتملت كل وحدة على التدريبات وألأنشطة وأسئلة التقويم الذاتي والرسومات، والأشكال التوضيحية، والرموز البصرية المنبهة التي تشكل حجر الأساسي في تعلمك لمادة المقرر، وفهمها. ويرافق المقرر تعيينات أربعة لتقدير مدى استيعابك لمادة المقرر.
