لكأن العقل يحتفل بانتصاره الحاسم على الفلسفة! لكأننا مدعوون إلى ممارسة حياتنا بعقل بارد لكي لا نتهم بأننا نعيش في القرون الوسطى! فكيف نستعيد إذن أحلامنا الضائعة من غير أن نعود إلى الوراء؟ ها نحن نعيش في بحبوحة مادية قياساً على الماضي. لكننا لسنا سعداء! لكأن الإنسان محكومة بالبؤس والشقاء الأبديين! إن كل ما أنتجه عقلنا الذكي لم يحل دون بث القلق والرعب في نفوسنا. والنتيجة واحدة: نحن نعيش تحت رحمة الموت ذاته. فلم يعد أمامنا سوى التمسك بالعيش من أجل دهشات صغيرة مصطنعة. أن نتفنن في إيجاد أوهام بديلة عن الأوهام التي دمرها العقل. إذن ماذا سيحصل عندما سنستنفد كل إمكاناتنا في توليد الدهشات؟ فالحروب هي أيضاً إحدى وسائل إنتاج الدهشات، دهشة النصر ودهشة الانتقاء.
فماذا عسانا نفعل نحت المثقفين؟ ماذا عسانا نفعل وسط هذه الفوضى المخيفة؟ لم تعد وظيفتنا حراسة الأفكار والأوهام. تلك التي عاش من أجلها فقراء الأرض وصعاليكها ولم تتحقق. بل تحقق نقيضها تماماً. لذا لا تستساغ الثقافة اليوم. فالثقافة تستمد وجودها من أحلام الضعفاء.
وحيث لا أحلام للضعفاء لا ثقافة. وإنما ألعاب حرة، وحشية، قاسية... وتسالي.
