لقد منَّ الله تعالى على البشرية بأن وضع لها نظاماً قويماً سائقاً لذوي العقول السليمة بإختيارهم المحمود إلى ما فيه صلاحهم وفلاحهم، وجعل أساس هذا النظام وقوامه علم التوحيد والصفات، الموصوف بعلم الكلام؛ حيث إنه أشهر مباحثه وأشرف مقاصده، وحيث إن هذا العلم بحر بعيد قاعه.
قام بعمل هذا الكتاب مخرجاً درر ما فيه، مفيداً للمسلمين وكان العمل في هذا الكتاب طبقاً للخطوات التالية: حيث اعتمد المؤلف على نسختين خطيتين في أما الأولى... فهي منسوخة بيد تلميذ المؤلف وهو العلامة الفقيه حسن بن إبراهيم الجبرتي الحنفي.
وأما النسخة الثانية، فهي غير معروفة الناسخ، وقد فرغ من نسخها سنة (1119هـ)، وهي ملونة كما عمل المحقق على تزويد النص بعلامات الترقيم المناسبة، ووضع بعض التعليقات المفيدة، كما رجع إلى المصادر التي ذكرها المؤلف، بالإضافة ذلك خرج الآيات والأحاديث التي ذكرها المؤلف، وترجم للإعلام والكتب التي ذكرها المؤلف، وعمل على تبحير أبيات الشعر المذكورة مع نسبتها لقائليها، ووضع ملحق للملل والنحل الواردة في الكتاب، ووضع فهارس عامة للكتاب مشتملة على: "فهرس الآيات القرآنية، "فهرس الاحاديث الشريفة"، "فهرس الأعلام المترجمة"، "فهرس الشعر"، "فهرس المصادر والمراجع"، "فهرس الموضوعات ".
