للمكان في العمل الروائي حضورُه، وللإنسان في المكان حضورُه، وللزمان في المكان حضورُه، ما يعني أن للمكان قيمة معرفية يكشف لنا على وفق معطياته البيانية بنوءة عمّا سيكون عليه الإنسان أو ما هو عليه.
من هنا، عنوان الكاتب جعفر الشيخ عبوش دراسته عن المكان بــ "السرد وبنوءة المكان"، متتبعاً الظواهر التي ينهض بها المكان في الأدب وهو يقارب العمل الروائي.
وعليه، يشكل هذا الكتاب كشفاً إبداعياً يتحسّس مواطن الجمال في النص الروائي، "إذ يتنبأ المكان في الرواية على وجه الخصوص مشكلاً ثورة حاضنة للسرد وملاذاً لا يكتمل العمل من دونه، وهنا تصدق على المكان النبوة من خلال الإكتشاف والمغامرة الجمالية للنص الروائي والتغلغل في مسامات المكان".
تشكل هذه العبارات رؤية المؤلف لعنصر المكان في السرد الروائي، ولأنه يعي أهمية المكان في الواقع الحياتي، والواقع الأدبي اختار روايات فاتح عبد السلام أنموذجاً للدراسة، وأديب عبد السلام أديب موصلي عراقي برز في القصة قبل الرواية، إذ تأتي بالمكان بشكل واضح وجلي في رواياته كافة، ويتمظهر هذا في عنوانات الروايات (حي لذكريات الطيور، وعندما يسخن ظهر الموت، وإكتشاف زقورة) كلها متضمنة المكان، حيث ظهر المكان الموصلي بخصوصياته وفرادته عن الأمكنة العربية منها والعالمية، وبعين روائي قد ولد وعاش في هذا المكان وامتزج معه إذ لم يكن مشاركاً فعلياً في أحداث الروايات الثلاث، فضلاً عن الرغبة في إبراز الموروث المحلي (الشعبي) وشموله بالعناية والدرس، وهو الشيء الذي تصدى له بالدراسة المؤلف جعفر الشيخ عبوش في هذا الكتاب.
