أصبح الإقتصاد أكثر أهمية في الوقت الحاضر من أي وقت مضى، وذلك بسبب التطور العلمي والتكنولوجي الذي أدى إلى زيادة حجم ونوع الإستهلاك والخدمات المنتجة، وما أتبع ذلك من تعميق للتخصص وتقسيم للعمل على الصعيد المحلي والدولي.
وزيادة التشابك الإقتصادي بين القطاعات الإقتصادية محلياً وبين الإقتصادات دولياً، وقد رافق هذا التطور تقدم في مجال العلوم الإقتصادية على صعيد الفكر والتطبيق، ويسعى كل من الأفراد والدول إلى إتباع أفضل السبل العلمية في إستغلال ما هو متاح لها من موارد إقتصادية لإشباع أكبر قدر من حاجاتها الإقتصادية وزيادة رفاهيتها وديمومة تقدمها وإحراز قوتها وضمان أمنها.
وصار موضوعاً لرسائل الماجستير والدكتوراه وقد أحرز قدم السبق في هذا المجال الكليات المهتمة بالدراسات الإسلامية، في تخلفت أو تجاهلت هذا الموضوع كليات الإدارة والإقتصاد إلا القليل.
وفي جمهورية العراق لم يحظ الإقتصاد الإسلامي بالتدريس في كليات الإدارة والإقتصاد، في حين دُرّس أخيراً في كليات العلوم الإسلامية في الدراسات العليا وبعضها في الدراسات الأولية والعليا، كان هذا هو الحال لغاية 1425هـ - 2004م.
وبعد جهود حثيثة من قبل الخيرين الغيورين على إسلامهم حصلت الموافقة على تدريس هذه المادة في قسم الإقتصاد من كليات الإدارة والإقتصاد، وبما أن المكتبة المنهجية العراقية تخلو من كتاب منهجي يضم مفردات المادة فقد سارعنا إلى تأليف هذا الكتاب ليشغل هذا الفراغ وقد كتب بشكل مبسط يستطيع أن يقرأه طالب الإقتصاد وطالب العلوم الإسلامية معاً.
