حسان علي حلاق (1946 - ) هو كاتب وأكاديمي لبناني وُلد ببيروت عام 1946 بمنطقة الطريق الجديدة، حصل على دبلوم عال في الدراسات الإسلامية ثم ماجستير في التاريخ عام 1977، وبعدها حصل على الدكتوراه من جامعة الإسكندرية عام 1981، ألّف حلاق عدة مؤلفات وقد ترجم عديد منها إلى الألمانية والإنجليزية. وهو عضو في اتحاد الكتاب اللبنانيين. وحائز على جائزة جامعة الإسكندرية التقديرية عام 2007. متزوج وله ولدان وثلاث بنات.

ألّف حلاق أكثر من خمسين مؤلفاً في مواضيع تاريخية وإسلامية، ومن أشهرها:

تعتبر دراسة مناهج البحث التاريخي المدخل الأساسي لفهم القواعد والأسس المنهجية التي يجب أن تتوفر في العمل التاريخي، ويجب أن تتوفر في المؤرخ أو الباحث نفسه، لا سيما وأن دراسة المناهج التاريخية وأصول البحث التاريخي، هي من المسلمات الموضوعية التي يجب توفرها في الدراسات التاريخية، مع ما تحويه من دراسة للمصادر والوثائق وتحقيق المخطوطات، مع التأكيد على أهمية دراسة هذه المناهج والأصول سواء من حيث النظرية أم من حيث التطبيق، عن هذه الدراسة التي نقلب صفحاتها تجيب على الكثير من التساؤلات التي تدور حول التاريخ والتأريخ، وهي بمثابة مقدمة في مناهج البحث التاريخي، ومقدمة متواضعة لعرض الاتجاهات والتيارات والأفكار والأسس التاريخية الخاصة بمذاهب ومناهج وقواعد الكتابة التاريخية، وفي هذا البحث حرص المؤلف على ربط دراسة المناهج التاريخية عبر العصور، بدراسة العلوم المساعدة للكتابة التاريخية، ودراسة تحقيق المخطوطات والأسس المتبعة في هذا المجال، مع إلقاء الضوء على العلاقة الحديثة القائمة يبن التقنية المعاصرة وبين البحوث التاريخية. وقد حرص أيضاً على أن يقرن النظريات بتطبيقات عملية منهجية عبر دراسة بعض المناهج التاريخية والفكرية لعدد من المؤرخين، كما وذيٍل الدراسة بملاحق وثائقية وتطبيقية وعملية لتوضيح بعض الجوانب التي عالجها هذا الكتاب.
