هيأ الله تعالى أئمة المحدثين لخدمة سنة نبيه صلى الله عليه وسلم، فجمعوا أحاديثه صلى الله عليه وسلم واخباره، وميزوا صحيحها من سقيمها، وصنفوا فيها الصحاح والمسانيد والمصنفات, وأثناء بحث المؤلف لهذا الكتيب في دار الكتب الظاهرية بدمشق وقف على هذا الجزء اللطيف في صفة النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فقام بتحقيقه لما فيه من فائدة. و المخطوط نسخة بدار الكتب الظاهرية جمعها الحافظ ابي عبد الله محمد بن عبد الواحد المقدسي وكتب في آخرها على الهامش (قوبل بالأصل المنقول بخط جامعه رحمه الله) وعليه سماع بتاريخ 19 جمادى الاخرة سنة 656 هجرية. وكاتب السماع هو محمد بن عبد الرحيم بن عبد الواحد بن احمد المقدسي.
