هذه دراسة تلقي بعض الضوء على الإطار العام للصحوة الإسلامية المعاصرة، ممثلة في تيارها الأقوى والأوسع، وهو ما يسمى "تيار الوسيطة الإسلامية". وهذه الدراسة كتبت في الأصل، للمشاركة في ندوة "الصحوة وهموم الوطن العربي" التي نظمها ودعا إليها "منتدى الفكر العربي" الذي يرأسه الأمير الحسن بن طلاب ولي عهد الأردن، وقد تناولت بيان مفهوم الصحوة وحقيقتها وخصائصها وعواملها.
وبعد هذا التمهيد تم تبيان المعالم أو الخصائص البارزة للإسلام كما تفهمه الصحوة وتقدمه للناس. مركزاً على خصائص أربع رئيسية هي: الجمع بين السلفية والتجديد، الموازنة بين الثوابت والمتغيرات، التحذير من التجميد والتجزئة لإسلام، الفهم الشمولي للإسلام، محدداً أبعاداً خمسة أساسية هي: البعد الإيماني، والبعد الاجتماعي، والبعد السياسي، والبعد التشريعي، والبعد الحضاري. وهذا هو القسم الأول من الدراسة.
أما القسم الثاني فيتعلق بموقف الصحوة من هموم الوطن العربي والإسلامي. وقد حددت أصول هذه الهموم بسبعة هي: التخلف، والظلم الاجتماعي والاستبداد والتقريب، والتناذل أمام الصهيونية والتمزق، والتسيب. وهنا تم التحدث عن نظرة الصحوة الشمولية المتوازنة إلى هذه الهموم، بعيداً عن النظرات: الجزئية والسطحية والقطرية، والآنية، والتلفيقية والتبريرية. كما تحدث عن كل هم من هذه الهموم السبعة على حدة، بما يوضح الصحوة وتيارها الوسطي الذي تم التحدث باسمه.
