فهو رسام وموسيقي وكاتب، اختار منذ بداياته الفنية خط الفن الحديث، والنمط التجريبي الارتجالي.
فرض كرباج نفسه من خلال رسومه التي ينشرها في الصحف وعلى مواقع الإنترنت، والتي تشق طريقها إلى المعارض، ومن خلال موسيقاه التي يعزفها في حفلاته وجولاته مع موسيقيين عالميين.
في مسيرته التي انطلقت في عام 2000، أنتج كرباج ما يزيد عن الـ14 كتاباً على طريقة الشريط المصور، منها "هذه القصة تجري" و"ناس من بيروت".

يضم هذا الكتاب مجموعة من الرسم الكاريكاتوري الساخر للفنان اللبناني "مازن كرباج" نشر سابقاً في جريدة الأخبار اللبنانية بين العام 2008- 2010 تحت عنوان "هذه القصة تجري أو لا تجري؟ تلك هي المسألة".
قدم لهذه المجموعة الأستاذ "بيار أبي صعب" اعتبر فيها أن مازن كرباج يقترح رسوماً من "النوع الثالث" إذا جاز التعبير "سياسية" بامتياز، شرط أن نتفق على المصطلح طبعاً. إنه من جيل لم يعد ينطلي عليه الدرس القائم على ثنائية الخير والشر، كيف بالأحرى ومازن يرسم في بيروت، حيث اكتشفناه تحت الطائرات المغيرة، بهذيانه وغضبه وإحساسه الوطني، ذات يوم حارق من صيف 2006، ابن الحرب الأهلية اللبنانية، يمضي في مشروع أركيولوجي خطير، قائم على حوار مع الذات مع الآخرين، ينظر إلى العالم بصفته خراباً داخلياً، ويبحث عن قوالب وأشكال ولغات جديدة، مغايرة، لقول العصر، للتعبير عن سقوط الأوهام، لاستيعاب فوضى المرحلة ومتغيراتها، كل ذلك بسخرية مكتومة...".
وفي هذا الكتاب يخاطب "مازن كرباج" شريحة واسعة من القراء الشباب الذين ينتمون إلى تلك الثقافة المغايرة، أو الحساسية الجديدة كما يسميها إدزار الخراط، وبين دفتي الكتاب سنتابع معاً "أبوكوكو" الذي أغلق الـ "ميني ماركت" ودس لأم كوكو مخدراً في الشاي وهرع إلى المعاملتين. قبل قليل ركبت مع سائق هذه القصة في الحمرا، وعبرت في "كافية نجاغ" في الأشرفية. في غرفة نوم في بيروت، سمعت طفلاً يسأل أمَه: ماما حتى تنشب الحرب المقبلة؟ وفي مخيم فلسطيني سأل طفل آخر أمه: ماما، كيف تكون "أجراس العودة"؟ مرت الأيام بلمح البصر، المغامرة الطائشة صارت تقليداً ثابتاً، أحبه الناس و"اعتادوا عليه".
