يُعَدّ الشعر ديوان العرب، وقد وصل الشعر إلى النضوج في العصر العباسي لظروفٍ عدّة منها: إندماج الثقافة العربية مع غيرها والإطلاع على الثقافات الأخرى، فضلاً عن تشجيع الخلفاء لقول الشعر لا سيما في ظلِّ التطور والتجديد في مظاهر الحياة الإجتماعية والثقافية والأدبية.
وشاعرنا من بين أكثر الشعراء الذين تركوا في شعرهم بصمات الإبداع، لذا ارتأينا أن يكون عنوان كتابنا هذا (تداعيات الذّات في شعر أبي فراس الحمداني)، وتنبع أهميته من كونه قد قُصِرَ عليه دون غيره من شعراء عصره، لِمَا تمتَّعَ به من مكانة مرموقة، وبما أنَّه كان واحداً من الشعراء المقربين من سيف الدولة فمن الطبيعي أن يساعده ذلك في تكوين ذاته ونماء موهبته على الصعيدين الإجتماعي والأدبي، وهذا ما جعله يتبوأ هذه المنزلة الإجتماعية والأدبية بين شعراء عصره آنذاك.
وإن من بين أبرز أسباب اختيارنا لهذا العنوان، يتمثّل في قلة المصادر التي تعنى بمثل هذا النوع من الدراسات تداعيات الذات في شعر أبي فراس الحمداني، كما نرجوا من وراء هذا العمل أن نسدّ حاجة مهمة في المكتبة العلمية في مجال الدراسات الجديدة حول الأدب العربي في العصر العباسي، ولا سيما فيما يتعلق بفكرة دراسة تداعيات الذَّات عند الشعراء، وأول ما يلفت النظر في هذا العنوان هو أنّه تناول أنواع تداعيات الذَّات في ديوان أبي فراس، كيف استذكرت ذاته؟ وكيف ظهرت بهذه الصورة؟ وهذا ما تمَّ رصده إعتماداً على الجانب الفني والشعوري لديه.
