«.. مرت الساعة المشؤومة.. وعندها دخلوا (حاصدو الذرة) يستطلعون الأمر، فوجدوه (الفارس الملعون) جثة هامدة على الأرض متيبساً بارداً، ووجهه مدفون في ماء الحوض الحجري نفسه الذي مازال موجوداً بين الآثار، لقد حانت ساعته، فأصابه الدوار، وسقط على وجهه، كما يبدو من جثته، في ماء الحوض، وفارق الحياة. وهكذا صدقت نبوءة جني البحر (الكالبي). الحكايات الشعبية، وخاصة حكايات الجن الذين يظهرون في أوقات الشفق أو في ضوء القمر، فيؤدي البشر لهم خدمات معينة، ويتلقون منهم المكافآت السخيّة، احتلت مكانها في أساطير الفلاحين الاسكتلنديين، وإن أبطال الحكاية جنيّات لطيفات وكريمات، وإن لم يكن ذا نفع مادي، فقد كان زاداً مناسباً لخيال عباقرة الأدب في اسكتلندا.
