هذا الكتاب دراسة علمية متخصصة في علم الصخور والمعادن. أعد الدراسة الجيولوجي باسم حميد سلطان وموضوع الدراسة "جبل سنان: خصائصه الطبيعية ومراحل نشأته". وبالتعريف جبل سنام يعد ظاهرة جيولوجية فريدة من نوعها في العراق. يقع في صحراء الدبدبة المنبسطة تماماً في أقصى جنوبي العراق مرتفعاً عنها بحدود (96) متراً فقط.
وفي هذا الكتاب يدرس المؤلف صخور جبل سنام وتراكيبه المختلفة، بعد أن جمع أكثر من (154) عينة صخرية، وفحص أكثر من (138) شريحة صخرية رقيقة مجهرياً وتحديد مواصفاتها المعدنية والنسيجية العامة والعمليات التحويرية والتحولية التي تعرضت لها هذه الصخور. فضلاً عن (13) عينة صخرية حللت باستخدام جهاز الأشعة السينية الحائدة.
وفي الكتاب أيضاً يتطرق المؤلف إلى أهم الدراسات والأبحاث التي أجريت على جبل سنام من قبل علماء الأرض، فضلاً عن تبيان بعض خصائص التراكيب الملحية المنتشرة عالمياً والتي ينتمي إليها هذا الجبل، وأهم النظريات التي تفسر تكوّنه ونشأته في هذه المنطقة، وصولاً إلى طرح المراحل المقترحة لتطور هذا التركيب عبر العصور الجيولوجية. وتقديم مقترحات لدراسة واستغلال هذا التركيب مستقبلياً وبصورة نافعة.
