تعود أهمية مبحث (الولاية) أو (رسالة الولاية) كما يشي عنوان هذا الكتاب إلى كونها تمثل التفسير الأقرب إلى التصور القرآني عن فلسفة وجود الإنسان ... وقاعدة استخلافه وغيرها من غايات. هذه الرؤية تحتل اهتمام مؤلف الكتاب "حسن بدران" الذي تمكن من مقاربة معنى الولاية، فوقف على التعريفات الإصطلاحية لها، وتوسع في الإستشهاد بالنصوص والأمثلة وكل ما من شأنه أن يصبّ في خدمة الفكرة التي ينقلها هنا في هذا النص مستفيداً من مدونات العرفان النظري قديماً وحديثاً، لذلك عمل على توزيع مباحث الكتاب على النحو الذي يجعله أكثر انسيابية في عرض المفاهيم، وأقرب للفهم من حيث تسلسل الأفكار ...
يتألف الكتاب من فصلين، يتعرض الأول منهما إلى الولاية الإكتسابية، وهي الولاية العامة التي جعلها الله تعالى لخصوص المؤمنين، فاستغرق هذا الفصل في مباحث تتعلق بماهية الولاية، ومبدأ هذه الولاية المتمثل بالولاية الإلهية وخصائصها، وأقسام الولاية ومراتبها، والولاية الخاصة التي هي أعلى درجات الولاية، ومقاربة مفهوم الوليّ والأولياء والفناء والبقاء، ولوازم الولاية المتعلقة بالولاية التكوينية، وكيفية السلوك ومراتبه، وعلاقة الولاية الخاصة بالنبوّة وحقيقة الحجاب.
أما الفصل الثاني فبحث في الولاية الإختصاصية التي جعلها الله تعالى برحمته للأنبياء والأوصياء والأئمة (عليهم السلام). واستغرق هذا الفصل في البحث حول مطالب النبوّة والولاية المطلقتين والمقيدتين، والعلاقة بين الرسول والنبي والولي، وختم الولاية المحمدية، والحقيقة المحمدية وخصائصها وعلاقتها بالولاية الإلهية، وما يرتبط بهذه المطالب من لوازم تتعلق بوحدة الولاية المحمدية والحقائق النوريّة.
