إذا كان لجنة عدن وجوه، فيمكن العثور عليها في أهوار العراق. فتاريخ تلك المنطقة يعود إلى بضعة آلاف من السنين مضت، وسكان المنطقة المتحدرين من الحضارة السومرية القديمة يتمتعون بالسحنات الدقيقة نفسها التي كان يتمتع بها سكان الأهوار الأوائل، وهم يقيمون في بيوت مصنوعة من القصب بدلاً من البيوت المصنوعة من الطابوق والآجر، ويستخدمون القنوات المائية بدلاً من الأشجار والعشب ويشاهد بأم العين قطعان الجاموس وأسراب الطيور الوحشية وهي تمر من أمامه.
وفضلاً عن ذلك يستطيع الزائر أن يسجل بكاميرته لقطات حية عن سكان الأهوار وطرق معيشتهم ونشاطهم وتقاليدهم. إنهم مفعمون بالحياة.. يعيشون ويعملون بجد، وبإمكان أي شخص يحل في دورهم المخصصة للضيافة أن يتخيل كيف سكن السومريون الأوائل في تلك المنطقة. وسكان الأهوار يحسنون ضيافة الغرباء، وما زالت مضايفهم الكبيرة التي تمثل نموذجاً رائعاً في الهندسة المعمارية العالمية، ما زالت تمتد على ضفاف نهر الفرات وهي تشبه القصور ذات القباب الذهنية.
هذا الكتاب يجمع بين الغربة ودقة الإثارة، فهو من خلال الصور الفاتنة الجمال التي يرسمها المؤلف بريشة الفنان المبدع، لمنطقة الأهوار، يلقي الضوء على أحقاب زمنية موغلة في القدم لا تزال آثارها ظاهرة للعيان نظراً لامتداداتها الحيوية في الزمن الحاضر.
