وهذه الرواية التاريخية رواية شاهد عيان في موقع قريب من الأحداث، جاء لقضية محددة، فإذا به أمام أحداث جسام فكان يسمع ويستفهم ويحاور. والمثير أن هذا الشاهد من علماء الفقه والنحو والمنطق، فضلاً عن كونه قاضياً موهوب الجانب حازماً صلباً في مفاوضاته، ليناً بما فيه صلاح المسلمين.
وسار الركب بالمركب (البابور) إلى استانبول، وكان يستقبل في كل ميناء كبير من قبل المسؤولين فيه. وفي استانبول استقبلوا أحسن استقبال. وقد وصف الكاتب بعضاً من المنازل والبيوت لكبار رجالات الدولة، وذكر بالتفصيل ما كان بين الوفد والمسؤولين والذين قد لا يتصل بمحور الرواية، وإنما هو أقرب اكتساب المعرفة بواقع أحوال الدولة وما عليها من نعيم وما كان من أمر المراتب وكذلك فإن التفصيل في وصف بعض الجوانب يعطيك إيضاحاً لما كان يجري (تتعرف إلى حقيقة العلاقة فيما كان يجري، سواء من أحداث أو أشخاص ومقام شيخ الإسلام بينهم).
