برزت مشاكل كثيرة عندها غرقت سفن أنطونيو، وتركته مفلساً، ولما استحق دينُهُ لشيلوك، اضطر باسانيو لإيجاد حلٍّ لإنقاذ حياة صديقه، لكن العون جاءه من مصدر غير متوقَّع.
