ظل بعض المؤرخين والجغرافيين يكررون الإعتقاد بوجود (360) قرية وبلده بحرانية قبل مجيء العتوب إلى جزيرة البحرين، لزمن تجاوز أكثر من سبعة قرون متتابعة، وهم من أقوام مختلفة، عرب ومسلمين وأجانب، وفي قرون مختلفة، وبقي هذا الإعتقاد أحد الظواهر التاريخية للمجتمع البحراني، جزيرة البحرين (أوال) كانت منذ قديم الزمان مأهولة بالسكان وبكثافة بشرية تنسف إدعائهم بأنها (بلاد بلا عباد)، وبقي وجود هذا العدد الكبير من القرى أحد أهم مظاهر الكثافة السكانية لهذه الجزيرة.
ظلت هذه الجزيرة عبر العصور مقراً متجدداً لحركة الإستيطان على يد قبائل عربية أصيلة وجاليات أعجمية آتية من بلدان المحيط ومناطقه، إنها جزيرة الثلاثمائة وستون قرية وبلدة، وهذه هي الأطروحة التي يدافع عنها هذا الكتاب.
