يحتوي هذا الكتاب من "سلسلة الصفاء" على رسالتين دونها الشيخ العارف "أحمد بن علوان" الأولى معنونة برسالة المهرجان والثانية معنونة "بالبحر المشكل الغريب المظهر لكل سر عجيب لكل عارف لبيب"، كما وفي الكتاب رسالة ثالثة جمعت بالملحق وهي بعنوان رسالة الدر الجوهر، والتشبيه الأجدر، والتمثيل للجهاد الأكبر المسماة بـ الكبريت الأحمر وهي أيضاً من تأليف الشيخ "أحمد بن علوان".
إن تحقيق مؤلفات العارف بالله الشيخ أحمد بن علوان تحقيقاً علمياً تتجاوز مسألة إيصال هذه المؤلفات إلى أيدي القراء والباحثين بسهولة ويسر، إلى فائدة أخرى لا تقل عنها شأناً، وهي أن هذا العمل سيحفظ هذه المؤلفات من التعيير والتحريف، الناتجين عن الإكثار من عمليات نسخها باليد، وتعريضها لتشويهات عديدة، وبصفة متراكمة قد توصلها في الأخير إلى وضعية تختلف وتتناقض مع ما كانت عليه أولاً، وهناك نماذج كثيرة تؤكد هذا، فإن عدداً من النسخ التي ظهرت في الآونة الأخيرة، تختلف إلى حد كبير عن النسخ القديمة، ولو استمرت الأمور هكذا، وتم نقل نسخ في المستقبل من هذه النسخ المحرفة فستزيدها تشويهاً إلى أن يفقد الكتاب مضمونه.
إن إخراج كتب العارف بالله أحمد بن علوان بصورتها هذه لا تعد المحطة الأخيرة، وإنما تقصد منه أن يكون الخطوة الأولى والأساسية والتي تستلزم بعد ذلك خطوات نأمل أن نرى من يقوم بها من الكتاب والباحثين والنقاد والمحللين والشراح لهذه الكتابات، ليتسنى الاستفادة منها لعموم الناس.
